Will all social algorithms be public soon?
Two things have happened this past week which might change the game for good. Allowing us to find out how all these social media algorithms work. Once we understand the inner workings, we’d be able to better exploit them for our own good.
The first thing that happened was Elon Musk bought Twitter. One of the things he has said he wants to do is put the discover and recommend algorithms in the public domain.
The second thing happened, in Europe. A new law has just passed requiring major platforms like Google and Meta (Facebook, Instagram) etc. to publicly disclose how their algorithms work. It’s in the new data privacy regulations and if these companies don’t do that to their satisfaction, they can be fined 6% of their annual revenue.
Snapchat Ads could be your new unicorn channel
With Meta Ads (Facebook Ads) costs increasing dramatically over the past year businesses are starting to look at channels, and Snapchat could be that channel for you.
Snapchats Q1 financial report shows daily active users increased 18% year-over-year to 332 million. With that revenue was up 38%.
The icing on the cake Snapchat is beating Facebook and Twitter when it comes to growth.
Why we care well advertisers are getting particularly good ROIs from Snapchat Ads, especially their Dynamic Ads product. With robust growth in the platform this will only increase.
Netflix Ad Platform is coming
Netflix plans to offer a cheaper ad-supported tier to their line up after reporting a loss of 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter.
There is little word on how this would work, it could be modelled of the YouTube ad product, or they might go a completely unique way.
Given Netflix’s first party data and the opportunity to run contextual campaigns you’d be able to place your ads in front of a captive audience. Time will tell how this plays out.
